NJR Sports Club
We play, enjoy ourselves and what is more… win!
Who said that intellectual disability is not compatible with doing sport? It is 100% compatible, and the proof of this lies in the success of the NJR Sports Club and the huge number of participants.
Since 2002, more than 500 people with intellectual disabilities have taken part in our sports programmes and enjoyed their awards: GOLD medals at the most recent World and European Indoor and Outdoor Athletics Championships; at the World Games and European Special Olympics Championships; and at national championships in different sporting events, such as golf, basketball, swimming, Spanish style football 7 etc… Our club has also received recognition: since 2005, as the top club in the Community of Madrid and one of the best clubs in Spain and, in recent years, it has been ranked as the Number 1 club in the Spanish Sports Federation National League of Clubs for people with intellectual disabilities. But we’re not finished yet… onward and upward! We take part in 20 sporting events: football (different styles), basketball, track and field, swimming, petanque, table tennis, tennis, paddle tennis, badminton, hockey, alpine skiing, horse riding, golf, bowling, hiking, Nordic walking, triathlons, adaptive sports, and motor bike events.
We also have elite athletes among us, such as Dionibel Rodríguez—the current world champion in Indoor and Outdoor Track and Field and 2016 ADOP special scholarship winner, who is close to making her dream come true of being at the 2016 Río de Janeiro Olympic Games.
